PEDALING FOR PARKINSON'S PROJECT LAUNCH

COMMUNITY WELLNESS PARTNERS TO LAUNCH PARKINSON’S CYCLING PROGRAM

Community Wellness Partners is pleased to announce the addition of an innovative program slated to launch in the spring of 2020.  Pedaling for Parkinson’s - a program developed through the research efforts of professionals from the Cleveland Clinic - is a form of forced exercise on stationary bikes designed to encourage Parkinson’s patients to push the limits of their physical capabilities in order to achieve greatly improved mobility and health.  Renovations for the new program, which will be housed at the Wellness Center on the Presbyterian Homes & Services campus, are slated to begin in December of this year with an initial inventory of equipment which includes ten stationary bikes, two Theracycle bikes, individual heart monitors as well as a Smart TV, IPad, DVD player and speakers.  The class will be facilitated by a trained spin instructor.

One of the latest advancements in the treatment of individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease, Pedaling for Parkinson’s is yet another level of service which Community Wellness Partners offers the community.  In his comments, President & CEO Mike Sweeney stated, “We have always considered ourselves fortunate to be viewed as a leader in providing resources and advancements in combating Parkinson’s Disease.  We fully realize that, with that leadership, comes the responsibility to maintain delivery of high quality, cutting edge services; I feel we have done an exemplary job in doing just that for Parkinson’s patients.”  Offering this spin class in conjunction with the other established programs for Parkinson’s at the Presbyterian Home campus like Rock Steady Boxing and Telemedicine will not only complement the existing programs but also help to make a significant impact in the lives of many individuals.

Community Wellness Partners representatives voiced their gratitude to the many community supporters who embraced the concept of Pedaling for Parkinson’s and committed to raising a total of $128,080 toward its completion, in particular the Mele Family Fund of The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties.  “We had so many people committed to the success of this project, that’s how we knew it would come to fruition.  When you see people getting excited, particularly when loved ones are involved and they can benefit from a program such as this, you know that it will happen,” said Lenora D’Apice, VP of Development and Marketing.

Combining over 150 years of service, Community Wellness Partners is a faith-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliation of LutheranCare® and Presbyterian Homes & Services.
