COMMUNITY WELLNESS PARTNERS PRESIDENT & CEO ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
Michael K. Sweeney, President & CEO of Community Wellness Partners (CWP) – the affiliation of LutheranCare and Presbyterian Homes & Services – has announced his plans to retire effective November 1 of this year. In a career that spans 50 years in healthcare, Mr. Sweeney has held the positions of CEO of the Bethel Homes in Ossining, NY; Executive Director of Westminster Woods on Julington Creek in Jacksonville, FL; and, CEO of Presbyterian Homes & Services, ultimately taking the helm as President & Chief Executive Officer of CWP in July of 2016. In this role, he has had the responsibility of leading both organizations ultimately creating the largest post-acute healthcare organization in Oneida County.
One of the major focuses of Mr. Sweeney’s goals during the affiliation was to align the two organizations while maintaining the integrity of both communities that have so much rich history in our area. “LutheranCare and Presbyterian Homes & Services have provided our region with quality care for over 150 years combined. It has been an honor to lead a team of 800+ employees through some of our toughest times yet,” stated Sweeney. Among Mr. Sweeney’s achievements as President & CEO are accomplishing the successful affiliation of the two organizations, expanding services to include the Lutheran Home Cottages for those living with memory loss, re-development of independent housing at the Meadows, refinance and revitalization of Preswick Glen, creation of an on-campus dialysis center alleviating unnecessary transportation for resident treatment and, most recently, Supportive Independent Housing for those 55 and older who are homeless or at-risk of being homeless. Above all, Mr. Sweeney’s guidance was instrumental in leading CWP through the challenges and losses caused by the pandemic. He feels confident leaving during this time. “Our Board of Directors and the teams we have in place are strategically positioned to move ahead and continuing serving the community in the capacity we have been known for. Furthermore, we are always continuing to expand and develop new services and I am committed to continue to lead that until my replacement is chosen,” said Sweeney. “I have dedicated 50 years to serving the elderly and I have worked with some incredible talent during that time. I am grateful to the many team members and our Board of Directors for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those we care for.”
The firm, Eklego Workforce Solutions has been hired to conduct the search for Mr. Sweeney’s successor. The company’s purpose – to have a profound impact on attracting and sustaining a mission-driven workforce for their partners – has been proven in the hiring of CWP’s new Chief Financial Officer.
Combining over 150 years of service to our region, Community Wellness Partners is an affiliation of LutheranCare and Presbyterian Homes & Services. Our faith-based, non-profit organizations offer the most complete continuity of health and wellness services for older adults in Oneida County.
