PRESBYTERIAN HOME VISITATION GUIDANCE
May 19, 2021
Dear Residents, Family and Friends,
The Presbyterian Team is so pleased that the world is gradually starting to return to normal, and the restrictions for our residents are starting to lessen. With things changing so rapidly, I wanted to write with some facility specific guidance regarding the re-opening of nursing home visitation.
We recognize you and your loved ones are so eager to reunite for in-person visitation the way it used to be. As you have experienced firsthand, there have been significant sacrifices over the last year to reduce the risks of exposure to Coronavirus (COVID-19) to protect our nursing home residents who are especially vulnerable. While we know you are eager to come for visits the way they used to be, we appreciate your patience as we navigate the guidance from our regulatory agencies. We’ve had to design our policies and protocols, create spaces and establish hours and systems, which are all aligned with New York State Department of Health guidance.
We certainly do not want to risk undoing all the progress your sacrifices have assured.
As we move forward, our visitation process will be as liberal as it can be to ensure visits as often as possible for all of our residents, and also allow us to meet the requirements we need to meet to maintain infection control protocols for those visits. In order to accomplish this, we request that you call in advance to schedule your visitation times. This allows us to maintain appropriate social distances, minimize over-crowding, and ensure oversight of precautionary measures. You can schedule an in-house visit with our Social Services Director at (315) 272-2227.
In-room visits and table visits in the visitor center are permitted for most residents who are not on isolation/quarantine. Our residents appreciate you being tested before entering the facility for in-room visits. Rapid COVID testing is available onsite at no cost to visitors. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled visit to allow for testing. Outdoor visits and hugging booth visits are available for visitors who prefer not to be tested.
Visitors must be 13 years of age or older, and visits are limited to 2 visitors at a time for each visit. Every visitor is required to wear a surgical mask while in the building (yes, even if you are vaccinated). We ask that you maintain social distancing of 6 feet from all residents. If the resident you are visiting has been fully vaccinated, brief contact is permitted.
For residents who are newly admitted or on a precautionary quarantine, we encourage window visits. Skype and/or Facetime visits are also available and organized by our Activities Department at 315-272-2207.
We know that you, like all of the team here at Presbyterian Home, want a successful and safe way to resume close contact with your loved ones. Although the incidence of COVID is declining, it is still prevalent in the community. Any transmission of COVID to our residents puts our residents and visitation at risk. Our goal is to keep our residents safe and healthy, and to keep our doors open to visitors. Thank you for your continued patience as we take steps toward a normal world again.
