A Record-Breaking Day for Parkinson’s Awareness

Seventy-eight-degree temperatures with blue skies, along with passion for a wonderful cause, brought out more than 400 people to the 24th Annual Parkinson’s Awareness Walk held at Sherrill Brook Park on September 12th. Community Wellness Partners Parkinson’s Programs raised a record, coming in at $61,541.00. Awards were given to teams for raising the most dollars in each division along with honorable mentions and creativity. Prizes were awarded for the following:
- 1st Place Corporate Team – First Source Federal Credit Union Team, $9,500 (also our Parkinson’s Walk Awareness Sponsor)
- 1st Place Non-Corporate Team – Team Tom $10,165
- 1st Place Community Wellness Partners Team – CWP Outpatient Physical/Occupational Therapy Team $489
- Most Creative Community Wellness Partners Team – CWP Team Finance
- Honorable Mention #1 – Team Grammy
- Honorable Mention #2 – Team Reale
A ceremony preceded the walk with America’s National Anthem sung by Cordelia Dziuban of West Winfield and keynote speaker Terry Reale of Utica. Community Wellness Partners Board of Directors Member Tom Lorenz, of New Hartford, led us with a Parkinson’s prayer before the walk. The New Hartford Fire Department and Edwards Ambulance Service fired off their sirens to start the walk with the fire department’s ladder truck displaying the American flag.
Along the route, there were snacks from Servomation and fruit from Cotrupe produce, cheering and pet stations with food, water, and biscuits for the dogs, which were manned and themed by Community Wellness Partners team members. In addition, we had the New Hartford Girls Varsity Softball Team, Preswick Glen team members, and the Utica University Pioneers Hockey Team helping out! Clinton Tractor golf carts even helped people maneuver the course!
At the finish line, the New Hartford High School Marching Band and the Town of New Hartford Police Department welcomed all of the walkers’ successes in navigating the mile-long walk.
